The Time in England part 1

             As much that I want to say but I have no idea what I am doing for the remaining time before classes start. These few days has been finishing up the time of freshmen orientation so it has been so empty and inactivity from the upperclass. I even think of myself as a freshmen but not revisiting the orientation activities.

         Although I get more extra time but has to figure out what to use it with. Pretty much I have organized my bedroom, located my classes and run into a few of my classmates from last year. Right now, yes I am happy to be back but I wish I could just get right into my art classes already.

           Okay, for now I'll talk a bit about some of the experience in England and Scotland. The vacation started off not the best foot from a six hour night flight and not knowing any bus schedules. Honestly we could not find any bus schedule online for us to access. It was a whole tiring day of running to any transport, not able to check into a hotel or bringing up the fold up map. And it all happened on a Monday.

         This probably affected the atmosphere of the city of London, making it shadowing place to walk around in. Not to mention, England is a whole week of rain showers and sunny patches, very similar to the weather in New England. So when walking, driving or hiking in England, best bring a rain coat with you everyday because the weather will be very unexpected but predictable to see. And when the city of London remind you of New York City and it is raining out, it is not the place to be in. For spending the two days in London was visiting Windsor Castle, The Tower of London, the National Gallery and British Museum.

        First off we did the Windsor castle that was a good introduction into the England culture, where the castle were bricks of limestone or red clay. You had towers floating above your visual, beautiful views looking out upon the city landscapes and the royal guard walking around to give the real feel of royalty. And no, I did not take a picture with the guards because it does not feel right to do and immature for tourist. And no, I am not being a hipster for say that. These soldiers are incredible at what they do and what they believe in, and we should not treat them like landmarks because they are human beings who do a lot more difficult authority.  
        Then we spent the whole day to the Tower of London because, honestly it is such a big and benefitting way. There is so much to explore like the crowd jewels exhibit to exploring the castle towers with their own stories. One of my favorite places was the exhibit in the White Tower, or well known as the Bloody Tower. Here, the legend is about the two young princes mysterious disappeared and murdered in the tower, for Richard the third to claim his throne. It is a sad mourning story to happen to children in royal but something to investigate further. And if you are an animal lover, you can check out what foreign animals the dukes and royal families had when we didn't just have dogs, cats, fish, birds and ant farms. You wouldn't believe how many people had monkeys running around for entertainment or having lion be given as a gift.

                Hello All!! I am back from my amazing vacation with my awesome family and are now settling back in art school really for my second year. As before, I will be posting regulating like before on Fridays and Sundays. I'll talk a little about my trip to England as well as the art experience.

Here are the pages I was experimenting with. It took a little bit more time putting in the text and playing around with photoshop but it was fun to put together. It isn't perfect but it was something I wanted to try. And again, I have no copyrights to the story of "The Secret of Monkey Island; this is just a sequential art interpretation from Monkey Island.

Sleepovers are not Old!!

This week was busy and fast, more than I can say. I want to make a quick thank you to my summer art teachers at Lyme for allowing me to part take in your classes, which did benefit a lot from. Here is what I did in Life Drawing Monday course, then I'll post the digital art I did on Sunday. 

Right now, going to be with best friends before my big trip. Also, two more pages left on my novel!!!

Two more weeks left

Summer becoming close to the end, here in my home town since in two weeks, off on two week vacation. So I doing my best to find time for packing and being with my friends. 

So here are some images I done this week, and have slowly started.

Also, been thinking about creating a blog for the graphic novel and fun illustration for "Tails". I will link to that as soon as I can.

Digital Illustration comic_Elaine and Guybrush's first meet

              Another long day of rain, and what a prefect day to stare in front of the computer to make this. It has been a really long time doing computer digital artwork, and with the motivation from my digital illustration class this summer, I wanted to try this. Especially if I'm thinking of doing a webcomic.
               These are comic pages from "The Secret of Monkey Island", by Ron Gilbert, that I created this summer. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to convert the pages with the dialogue talk bubbles into JPEGs so you get to see the digital artwork I done in photoshop.

MAC Comic Camp

             Today, I want to thank my best friends for being with me after volunteering after another awesome summer camp by the Mystic Art Center (MAC). The ice cream and summer shop browsing is fun to do. Next week will be a lot more fun and more time to use.

       This week, I helped out Instructor Conam Lee, Alumni RISD Illustrator. For the five days, he taught the basic of comic book layouts and the expected presentation of different type of comic books. Conam was well prepared with a number of samples, especially with anime concept art and illustrator studio of Gurihiru. You may know this these people by the American Anime style like the "Avater, Last Airblender". Check out their artwork and their blog to see for yourself- http://gurihiru.blogspot.com/

           Anyways, each day would be learning a new tip or technique for the students like drawing the suggestion of existing landscapes, negative & positive space and different perspectives. Then there would be assignment would be to draw a particular amount of panels, starting from two panels to five panels. But it isn't something that the students can make up, it is all decided by the roll of dice. Each side of the dice has an image and has to create the comic story with those images. It really strengthen the creativity and imagination when putting together sequence art. Especially with these students, who were really putting all their efforts into their comics like real live artist. For a moment, it actually felt like I was part taking in an illustration class, where the student do their critiques and I would let them work at their own pace unless they needed suggestions.

              Overall, I really glad that I got to volunteer at this camp. I got to known a graduated illustrator from RISD who gave me great feedback on my work and good advice to think about when pursuing this field.                       Then on Monday, after last week pastel, I decide to try again. I wouldn't really call this a masterpiece, more like a color skin theory where I figured out the different tones of the body. I enjoyed creating the defined shadows on the body but it took a lot of time to color in the lighten up skin tone. There must have been four to five types of colors I kept layering. Even my teacher, Jennifer Wheeler, Alumni Fine art and illustrator teacher, allowed me to use her special portrait selective pastel to capture the warm curves on the form. "Tails", in Watercolor preview

All this week and today, I have been working on painting colors on the "Tails" graphic novel. I have to say that I am half way done watercoloring the pages. I do plan on darkening more of the panels and layering more colors upon the first coat. Here is a preview of the pages I have done and my favorite pages.

Sorry for being late

Hey, Sorry for not doing a Sunday response. Last week got very tight while this weekend has been constantly producing artwork before the upcoming vacation trip in August. Also, Sunday was the day my cute cousin came over and did a puzzle together. So this is a little illustration for them.

So most of the time I been doing watercolor illustration and charcoal or hard pastel  for life drawings. Here are a couple I created this week:
